I also use a garbage can separator on most machines. The only machine I have hooked directly to the collector is my table saw. Router table, drum sander, planer, belt sander all run through the separator first. If I didn t use that I d probably only get a week between cleanings and I m strictly a hobbyist.

Are you sure that separator is not causing more problems than it is solving? I have the Jet version of this type dust collector and I would never have to empty the fine dust bag if I remember to empty the chip bucket.

I would assume it helps. I usually have a full can every other week. If it wasn’t there that would go directly to the collector. That onboard unit isn’t that large so that would probably be full every week too. Then the finer stuff goes to the filter and the connected canister underneath. If there is someway having that extra step is somehow detrimental I would appreciate knowing it. I will certainly remove if it is.
