Plus one on the above. You can depend on these type saws with the separate motor. Usually can find them on Craigslist, local want ads and the like. Heck, even my local Goodwill store had a very nice Craftsman with stand on casters, miter gauge, deluxe fence and other accessories for $200. If I’d had the room in the shop, I’da brought it home with me.
Even if you get this kind of saw which needs a little TLC, you’ll end up with a MUCH better saw for the money and time invested.
If space is an issue, and you really need a smaller table saw, for about the same money as the fancy fence system, you can buy a Dewalt 745 series. I’ve had one for several years, and it’s GREAT!
BTW, Plus one on the “Why do manufacturers sell this kind of crap?” I had a Royobi job site table saw for a very brief period. That was the biggest POS I’d even had the misfortune to endure. Couldn’t wait to get rid of the SOB.
