Are you using a sled or jig that rides in the miter slots? Maybe you’re getting sawdust in the slots on the rail is riding up on that?

Good suggestion. I am using an Incra Miter Jig, so it could ride up on sawdust, but not this time, i just checked and all is clear.

BTW – the vertical drop is on the order of 1/32”

-- If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about the answers.
