Assuming that there is room behind the platen and nothing moving that would interfere, how about drilling a hole on the opposite side so you can attach from both sides, Even better, Drill another hole on both sides about 2 inches higher so that it won’t pivot. Attach a triangular brackets with long bolts on both sides. Remove the platform from the tool rest you want to use and attach it to the brackets in a way that will allow you to tighten it down. If it is not wide enough, you might have to have a spacer on one or both sides so that it clamps it down when you tighten the lever bolt shown in your picture (might require a longer bolt as well.

Not sure my description makes sense. I think that I showed you this before but you can see a similar solution on my blog about the belt sander I built here.
