Whoa, that’s really really good. Could even do the glass holders and cutting board as a matched set.
I was imaging that we would build two. I would do each operation and then she would do it with her stock. Very similar to your suggestion.

If I was doing this for a date night project I might choose something like this

This is how I would go about it. Have on already made up and ready to go. More on this later. Have another blank already glued up to take to the band saw. I would probably rough dimension the pieces for a third one and let her take a turn on the table saw if she is up for it. Be there every step of the way of course. Then teach her how to do a glue up. Finally over to the band saw / drill press to finish up the blank you had already glued. Finish up the project with applying finish.

Then surprise her with the one you already have made and a couple steaks to throw on the grill while you both enjoy a glass of wine together. Have a nice dinner and if following Ken s advice maybe some more wine so no one is fit to drive home.
