+1 If the sides/sole are dead square with sharp edge, you will leave tracks.
Break edge with file and radius slightly with some 100 grit paper.
Don’t want a sharp corner.

There s a possibility that it s the corner of the plane leaving a track. I like to ease the edges of mine with a file so they have a slight chamfer with a smooth transition. A sharp corner will cut to some extent.
