I’ve made many baby rattles. I joint and plane a board of cherry or walnut to 3/4” thick and about 2” wide. I made a jig that allows me to rout about a 2” long groove in a portion of the end of each section. Put 5 dried kidney beans in the groove and glue the two sides together. Mark the end where the beans are or you’ll not have a happy turning.

Babies love them, but don’t get hit in the head with the rattle
