Own several of the Bosch 1617, had to replace power switches on them, but never seen this issue?
According to the parts diagram,
https://www.ereplacementparts.com/images/bosch/RA1166_(2610919881).pdf
that brass is part of a one piece Motor Carrier Assembly?

Appears it might be part of a brass/bronze bushing, probably pressed into the motor carrier. Is part of the bushing broken off in up inside carrier assembly, or has it just come lose?

New motor carrier assembly can be bought for $42, which is cheaper than new base if rest of parts are not excessively worn?

PS – Ace Tools has $20 off $100 deal on Bosch tools, new base is only $83:

Best Luck!
