You mentioned your interested in a 8” jointer, but you didn t say the length you wanted, only said not too big a foot print. Your going to sacrifice quality with some of the space saving models, such as the Jet #JJB-8BT 8”, $480. or the Jet #JJB-10BT 10”, $680. or the Rikon #25-010 10”, $1210. All available at Amazon w/free shipping… and all of these don t have the best reviews…. You ll probably be happier with a 8” with a minimum of 72” bed, if not 76” or 80” bed. Maybe add a extra room to your garage or make your garage longer, since you still want to park 2 cars in your 2 car garage with a woodshop in it. Sacrifices may be needed (park one car outside).

my old 6” jointer had a 48” bed, which was a perfect fit for my shop. Looks like all the 8” ones start at 72”, unless they are the really small bench ones and I’m not interested in something that small. Thinking I can shuffle some things around and make it fit. So much for ever getting a truck in there.

Does anybody have any personal experience with the mobile bases on the Grizzly jointers? I’m eyeing the G0857 but it looks like the mobile base doesn’t have any swivel in it. It shouldn’t be too difficult to take the wheels off so I can make my own mobile base, right? Being able to turn is pretty important in a garage shop.
