Larry – I ran into a similar issue when I made a sled to use my router to plane large slabs flat. I use a 2” bottom cutting bit but depending on the thickness of the slab as cut, sometimes set up was a PITA to get it to reach on one piece without being too short for the next piece.

I bought this extension and it worked perfectly. It ain’t cheap but I’ve used it quite a bit without any issues whatsoever. I agree with others that ideally, you shouldn’t use an extension. But, if you need it, you need it.
