You will need a minimum of 4” pipe or hose to get effective dust collection for short runs. 6-8” for longer runs. You cannot reduce below 4” at any point. You could take a 2 hp fan and motor, mount on the wall near the ceiling and pull thru a cyclone and vent outside.

I don’t agree completely. I have a manifold connected with 4” hose, but a lot of my tools have a 2-1/2” port and are connected to the manifold with a hose that size. I’ve been pretty happy with the results.

Also, venting to the outside will get pretty expensive in heated or air conditioned space if you run the DC much.
