Grizzly G0690 Dust Collection Improvements

It seems that almost all G0690 cabinet saw owners love the machine's performance, but several have also posted concerning their struggle to achieve acceptable dust collection. Like many older cabinet saws, there is no shroud surrounding the blade and dust that ends up below the table simply falls onto an angled, formed metal pan that is bolted in place near the bottom of the cabinet. I have seen many posts where owners tape the gaps between the cabinet walls and the pan, but they still contend with a three-inch deep accumulation of dust below the lowest part of the dust port. I couldn't live with that, so here's how I am trying to shape up my G0690's dust collection performance.

1. I raised the pan appropriately 2.75" using longer bolts and a spacer (pvc conduit in my case, but you could centainly make it from something else. Replacing the pan in the lifted position required a minor bending adjustment to the cabinet's mounting tabs, which I achieved using an adjustable wrench. This adjustment brings the pan to a position just beneath the bottom of the collection port.

2. I applied painters tape to cover the gap between the pan and cabinet.

3. I applied double-bead weatherstripping in a fashion where the beads capture the door between their profiles.

4. I stuffed packing foam in the gaps beneath the front table overhang.

I'll be testing this arrangement and reporting results in the near future. I typically use a zero-clearance insert so, a completely sealed cabinet may choke the performance a little, but any improvement is a step in the right direction.
