I found a Grizzly G0490 jointer on Facebook Marketplace last May listed for $800 and purchased it for $750. I had the jointer in my shop on the same day it was posted and it has truly been a great machine. Six inch jointers seem to be quite common but a quality 8” machine at a fair price can be more difficult to come by (I traveled an hour each way for the Grizzly).

The prices you are talking seem to be fair for a good machine and I think I got a little lucky on mine. The owner had a complete Grizzly shop and was preparing to move south so was selling the items he didn’t want to transport. I bought the first thing that was listed pretty quickly and noticed that the items he listed later were discounted a lot less.

You could try to wait and find something cheaper, but I have found that the best machines at a fair price don’t often last long and if it something you want, it can be wise to jump on it quickly. The price difference between a new unit and the used unit can go a long way toward adding a helical head or another piece of equipment to your shop. For the most part, a jointer is a relatively simple machine and unless it was abused, there shouldn’t be a lot to go wrong with it. The parallelogram beds also offer a lot of versatility in adjustment should the need ever arise.
