You are working way to close. It’s winter so the wood panel is as small as it will be all year, so allow for some expansion. Even then I like 1/8”-3/16” clearance on each side so I have room for space balls. I like 1/2” deep grooves to accept the panel. That gives you a decent length stub tenon on the ends of the rails for strength as well.
