My shop/garage is also the laundry room and the gas fired water heater lives there as well.
The wife parks her car in there at night so everything is on wheels.

She has become accustomed to dust on the washer/dryer.
I do my best to keep it as clean as possible but sometimes it’s just not possible.

I own my home so there was not an issue running additional electrical and adding light where necessary.
That may cause you an issue since you are renting.

Since my water heater is in the garage I am always very careful about what finishes I am using and I make sure the garage is well vented when spraying Poly, Lacquer, and or using mineral spirits and the like. I don’t want to blow myself up! :)

I do keep a couple of Swiffers around to wipe off the washer and dryer each night when I break down the shop. A happy wife is a happy life.

-- When you leave your shop for the night, make sure you can always count to 10.
