They made several different tops for that base. Some of them offered end mounting for the router lift. So instead of being centered, the router lift was off to the left or right and would fit on either side of the center support.

Check the short support piece. One of the steps in the instructions is to cut off a small piece of it to fill the holes in the back of the case, so you might see if they did that.

Heres a pic of one of the double lift tops where you would use the center support.
