The plywood represents or is a piece that will drop into the dado or groove, so makes a perfect, zero error set up gauge.

As to making the dado, just use any [quarter inch or larger] template bit (bearing on top and the same size as the bit) for fool proof cuts.

This dado guide is a “what you see is what you get” jig, so you can just set it on the lines and you’ll get dados the size of the lines.

To move it to the next line, just back off the built in handle clamp, move it to the next line(s), give the clamp a turn and go for it.

It kind of amazes me so few were impressed with this jig. In fact, several tried to point out other, far more complex jigs to play this one down.
