Just brain-storming here:

Two 4ft sections – each section has four supports that are 3/4” plywood that look like a stair case. One for each end and two evenly spaced in the middle. The front and top of each “step” on the supports has a neodymium magnet. Then you just use 4ft boards, also with neodymium magnets as the “treads” and “risers”.

Another idea along the same lines is using small hinges instead of magnets for the platforms that would hold the merchandise. Then the whole thing could be folded flat. Keep the magnets on the front of the steps and slap a board on the fronts if you don’t want the see-through look.

I think both of these ideas might be a little “tippy” in that they might collapse of someone knocks into it from the sides. Maybe adding some scraps to the backs of the “risers” that would be on each side of the 3/4” ply supports?
