I was at that game. It was miserably cold but I’m glad I toughed it out :-)

I’d use a #12 screw in construction lumber. The wood is soft so the coarser the thread the better. But honestly, you could probably use drywall screws.

The main concern for center of gravity is when you have a top heavy machine like a drill press. I wouldn’t worry with a table saw personally.
