I know exactly what you’re talking about. No. It’s not necessary, or even useful. I unscrewed it the day I unboxed the saw, and have never once put it back in. It’s so silly. The rotation of the blade keeps the insert in. The back screw however, I would recommend keeping in place – the one that just hooks in.
