Just oil all of the moving parts. I have a Belsaw planer from the early 1970s. The basic design hasn’t changed since the 1930s/1940s so mine and yours should be the same inside. And yes, the hand crank that raises and lowers the table is normally a little hard to turn. The mechanism has a tight chain drive and four large screws in addition to the heavy bed to move. Its the way its made. Just grab that big handle/crank and crank ‘er around!
