You are trying to glue end grain. It’s likely that whatever you are using is being sucked up into the end grain and doing you no good at all. Also, since it’s a wall, you get no benefit from gravity and you can’t clamp it. You may get good results from gel CA. Put some CA on the wall and some accelerator on the piece of wool. Press and hold for about 10 seconds and it should hold.
