I see no functional problem with them being staggered. It will be necessary to do so in order to access the release catch on the left side when the drawer is opened. The only potential problem I see is if the rear of the drawer is square, then the left rear corner will be unsupported. You can deal with that by keeping the drawer loads light, using heaver duty slides, or by using a longer slide on the left side.
