I think you can use any wood you want to, but I would try to use hardwoods if possible….Mixing and matching woods is ok…..Like was said, it’s a work bench, not a fine piece of furniture….! Just make it stout enough to handle anything you want to do on it, so it doesn’t rack…..!!!
