Brad, thanks for the response. I will take some pictures this evening and post. Looks like it is not easy to find a 110v momentary position switch for a 1hp motor. Best I can find is for a 1/2 hp but I don t think that will work.

If you do have an external starter, which it sounds like you do, then the size of the motor makes no difference – that switch is just for the starters contactor coil – no motor current goes through it. Depending on the starter, the switch is either controlling 24v or 120v with very little current (much less than 1A typically).

Essentially, when you push the normally open “Start” button, it supplies power and energizes the starter coil. When that happens, it not only engages the contacts for the motor, but also secondary contacts for the coil that run through the normally closed “Stop” button to keep the coil energized. When you push the stop button, it opens the circuit, dropping voltage to the coil, and thus to the motor as well.

Depending on what control station you have, you should be able to get to the contacts to verify they are in good condition and give them a good cleaning. I’d also check to make sure all the wiring is tight and you don’t have any loose connections anywhere.
