To remove the old laminate just lift a corner and squirt a bit of lacquer thinner between the laminate and substrate, it will dissolve the glue. It will probably take some time and fussing but should all come off fairly easily. Make sure you do this where there is good ventilation and no open flames around, lacquer thinner is explosively flammable!
