For comparison, I picked up a nice Grizzly G0490 Jointer that was listed on Facebook Marketplace for $750 earlier this year, they are currently $1,364 new. I’m not sure what the G0500 went for when new. I may eventually add a Shelix head at some point in time, but at the present the straight blades are serving me quite well.

I had the opportunity to buy a Dewalt DW735x Planer (with extension tables and extra set of blades) for $450 when it was reduced and that was the impetus for the Planer search & purchase. Neither of the items was in the budget at that particular point in time but the price made us do a little financial adjustment to make it work (thanks to my CFO and loving wife). I would recommend the DW735 and it is a great planer at a reasonable price. My eventual plans are to add a Shelix cutter (full size, not the smaller one), but with two sets of straight blades, I should be good to go for a while.

I have the Laguna 18BX Bandsaw and while I looked closely at the full range of 14-18” Rikon, Jet & Laguna bandsaws, in the end the 18BX seemed to be the best for my personal use. The features I like include the ceramic guides, blade brake, both dust ports being on the same side of the machine, and overall quality, size, power and design. With my experience with the Laguna, I would think the 14BX would be a great saw.
