BER (Beyond Ecconomical repair) usually determined if the repair is about 70% of the new replacement cost

So for example if the motor is about $100 and repairs are going to be more than 50% and approach 70% or the same in dollars its BER.
External Labour accounts for anything from 20% upwards, so thats why you can repair items yourself and continue on.

For example my Ryobi ERT 1250 router failed yesterday (not a current model) replacement cost would be about $150 or there abouts.
I stripped it down identified a failed bearing, drove to the bearing shop 2klms away, returned and fitted the new bearing then continued on with what I was doing.

The bearing was $6.00.

The school tossed 2 x saws one had the panel cutting accs fitted, way too big for my driveway amazing the gear that gets hucked out.

Here is the ST 12
