Well, I just paid $400 {actually $386} for my spiral cutter head alone, so yeah, I would say it s worth it. Rigid makes a pretty decent jointer even without the spiral cutter head. All that said, I don t find the spiral cuter heads to be quite all they are cracked up to be. Don t get me wrong, they are worth it just for the longevity of the blades in tough wood. But I don t find them all that much quieter than a good sharp set of straight knives and I don t really find them the end all, be all of stopping tear out either. In my personal experience they are not quieter enough to bother mentioning…maybe I just have noisy machines, and you can still get tear out for sure. Again, where the spiral cutter head shines is not having to piddle around with a magnetic base dial indicator for an hour to set up straight blades and having the thing stay sharp, at the minimum, 10 times longer

Thanks for the reply. Honestly I hate tinkering around with machines and tuning them. So the frustration savings in setting the knives might be worth it in itself. I also do work with some reclaimed stuff. So the ability to just turn a knife around is pretty appealing also.
