I’m not sure what you mean by “properly tenoned”. You don’t need to have a bb end at all. You can sand the end grain smooth and finish it. If you are going to make one I think that you should have a full width tenon; if that is what you mean. You can then glue only the 3”-4” or so center portion. There won’t be much movement over the 12” width.

If you have no confidence in your router, you can cut the M&T on the table saw. That would likely be my first choice for something that small anyway.
