Generally, a sanding sealer applied before staining or finishing helps with blotching. Since you have a coat of finish on already, you could try re-staining the entire piece.. It will likely darken things up and hide/blend the blotched areas. The one coat of finish will act as a sealer. I’ve used this approach on cherry when I stain it and things get blotchy.
