I use carpet tape, but whenever possible, I will apply extra pressure by squeezing the parts together for a second with a clamp wherever I have placed the tape. I find that the split second clamping really forces the two pieces together.
Depending on the size of your project, it may not be possible to get the clamp over the area that is taped.
