newwoodbutcher,

I have neither machine. When I was upgrading my dust collection I eliminated those systems that offered the shorter cyclone bodies. My research revealed that maximizing the capture of the finer particles in the dust collection barrel (and thus keeping it out of the filters) is dependent on the time debris remains in the cyclone. The taller cyclones with a longer taper meet this requirement better that the shorter cyclone units. However, the problem with taller cyclones is that they require a greater floor to ceiling height. In a low-ceiling shop the size of the dust collection barrel would be reduced.

But if the decision has already been narrowed to the two units you are comparing, some important factors to compare would be: the fan performance curves (a graphs that plots CFM versus static pressure); impeller and motor sizes; the extent to which smaller particles are filtered from the air; and the total surface area of the filters. If these factors are comparable, then price would become the deciding factor for me.
