Most all finishes are food safe once cured. If you plan to use them for salad bowls, where utensils will be banged against them, just rub some mineral oil on them. Wash them out, don’t submerge, let dry, rub in a little mineral oil again. An actual finish that dries, in the wood or not, will just show all the scratches from utensils.
