2) The tilt wheel is much harder to rotate than the blade height wheel – is there an issue, or is that normal?

It shouldn’t be any harder than raising or lowering, you do have to lower the blade to tilt it as I recall.

4) Has anyone used the PALS system to adjust the alignment and was it worth it, or does the block & hammer suffice?

I had one of these saws and only had to adjust the alignment one time. So in my case PALS would not be worth it. Generally a saw once aligned shouldn’t go out of alignment unless you do something traumatic like move. I would try to align it without the PALS, you may never need to adjust it again. At any rate adjustment is not something that needs to be done frequently unless you move a lot. If you find you have realign it a lot then maybe PALS would be worth the money.
