Measure the existing belt? So far your questions seem to have all been answered. If you are still stuck, ask more questions. At some point you’ll have to get your hands dirty to find out what it needs, if anything. You’ll also have to fire up google (or yahoo or bing) search engine and read about different belt types and decide what you want to use. Fixing old lathes is a labor of love and usually they will be more work for less return than buying a modern lathe. If your goal is to be a woodturner, I recommend selling this lathe and buying something modern.

This is the first link when I searched “how to measure leather drive belt”. They not only sell you replacement belts but tell you how to measure them.
