Cyanoacrylate glue is perfect for putting on trim, such as your scrollwork, provided you can position accurately with 5 to 10 seconds. Have done this thousands of times. If your scroll work is larger, and you need more time, then I would sand ever so slightly where the scrollwork is going. With a bit of sanding, almost any glue will work. Urethane glues are very sticky and will definitely work, but they will foam so the trim will move unless held firmly in place. And cleanup can be a problem.
