Yup, That’s it, a rare thing of Beauty. The early models weren’t as good as the later ones. They had, I believe an Allison engine and were underpowered. It really came into it’s own when the Rolls Royce Merlin engine was added and the bubble canopy. The early ones honestly looked a lot like a Spitfire to me. The drop tanks gave it the range to become the premier long range fighter escort for the bombing campaign into the heart of Germany.
