Sounds like the negative rake parting tool made from another similar old tool. As I used it tonight it worked great for about 30 seconds then needed touch up to create a burr.

I have yet to use the tool to cut an inside relief as I was cutting my first set of threads using the piece shown above and its mate. I’ll try it on my next thread project. The new Hope jig worked great cutting the female and then male threads. The first threads on the cherry piece were neat looking. I learned that next time to make the male piece with a larger diameter as the resulting threads were lose but work.
