Thank you for the detailed feedback CharlesNeil.

I think I need to continue to build coats and I am currently at a point where the grain is still pulling in a majority of the finish. Ideally, with subsequent layers, these will fill and a more uniformed finish will emerge. Additionally, I have been evenly coating the top and bottom, and plan to finish with a couple of additional coats on the topside.

The fact grain is still pulling in the mineral spirits so much certainly seems to be an indicator the finish is still really thin at this point, so hopefully the coats to come will remedy.

Some additional photos below to help better see the entire project (and perhaps a shameless attempt for a few attaboys… or at least some more excellent feedback as I learn my way through this wonderful art).

With roughly 100 hours into this project (certainly could have been done faster!) I am trying to avoid ruining it when being so close to the finish .
