Since I began this reorganization project, two side benefits have presented themselves: First, I have been able to repurpose some items that have been lurking around the shop for hanging tools and/or supplies. (For instance, a few quick snips with diagonal cutters and a couple of bends have transformed a wide wire drawer organizer into two “pockets” for tools. Another long, thin drawer organizer became the pocket to hold the shop reading glasses in their hard plastic case. The wire mesh pencil cup was flattened slightly on one side, and held in place with two 1/8 plastic anchors and screws (Which I had on hand) Pencils, a box cutter, the paint can opener now live in this stabilized container. Being a “scrounge” at heart, I’m glad to be able to find new life for these things that have been kicking around for awhile. (The wife has sent some of her crap to the garage. I my domain, I consider it “fair game” for reusing to my purposes…..) It’s pretty amazing what you can hang on pegboard with a little imagination.
The second benefit is the surprising amount of hardware I have unearthed. Screws, nuts, bolts, hinges, mending brackets, etc. I’ve been putting these in a shoe sized box so they’re all in one place, and can be sorted out later. This will save some time and money at the hardware store, that’s for sure.
