No heat needed. You can rub it on straight from the block, or you can shave off flakes and dissolve in mineral spirits. For those who don’t have it, you can pick up a pound of it at the local super market, walmart, hardware store, Amazon, etc… for about $2:

I use it both ways. For the dissolved stuff, a mason jar works great, and a small wire basket makes it easy to dunk small parts like nuts and bolts. Gets wax where you otherwise can’t normally get it. Pop it in the refrigerator for a bit and it will turn into a paste.
