Well here is a link that spells it out pretty well. Avoid climb cuttiing if oyu can or have a damn good hold.

You should cut that slot prior to assembly. If you doing blind dovetails the slot won’t even show. Otherwise stopped is easier.

If do use a slot cutter you wont get the ends square so you will still have to do chisel work, so I don’t see how thats faster or easier, butt it can be done just followo the directions for an inside cut.
