Seems like a strange way to go about this. If the side of the box is to the left of the bearing as you are facing then I believe it would be the same as if you were using the fence. You would push away from you feeding the stock into the rotating cutter. Think about it. The bearing is just a very short (and round) fence.

Note that the slots will not reach into the corners. You are going to have a ton of hand work facing you to finish them off to hold the bottom panel. With a decent sized slot cutter the bearing would be pretty big to give a shallow slot. That will keep you well out of the corners for sure.

The stopped cuts are a snap if you just set up starting and ending blocks on the fence.
