I will say this, to your comment about price variances by region. When I was looking for a jointer, I kept hearing, “you can find a good 6” jointer for $150”. I ve never seen anything remotely close to that. The only way to really get a feel for your local market is to keep watching – if possible, find out what stuff has actually sold for.

Lots of people inflate prices on CL because they know that people will offer low – make an offer to the guy that you think is fair – see what happens.

I was half tempted to offer $300. But I agree about the prices in other areas comments. Because it would appear that I m definitely in the wrong area for good used woodworking tools.

I feel your pain. I looked at something a while ago that I knew was way overpriced. I offered the guy what I thought was fair – and gave links to other things showing that they were selling in that range – told him I wasn’t trying to lowball, that i thought it was a fair price. He got super p!ssed, told me not to waste his time, etc. If nothting else, contact the seller & ask what his best price is, see what he says
