I purchased the Ridgid 6” jointer new in 2008 and have been happy with since. Each new set of knives, the $17 powertech knives, have been ordered from Amazon. The knives cut smoothly and hold a decent edge for the price. I know the knives can be sharpened and I have done that before. I am just curious if there is something out there much better than what I have used up to this point.

My question is, where do you buy yours? How is the quality of the knives?

I know this is not exactly the answer to your question, but I’m just throwing this out there. Have you looked at shelix carbide cutter heads? I have them on my piwermatic jointer and Dewalt planer and I love them. They stay sharp so much longer than planer knives and also if you were to nick one you can just rotate them, they aren’t ruined like planer knives are. The initial cost is significantly higher than a set of jointer knives, but honestly you will save money overtime. I have had these on my jointer for over a year and have not had to rotate, or change on yet!

Anywho, may be worth taking a look.
