Think will be surprised how much of that spalted wood is useable or unuseable. Some can be turned and some will need to be stabilized and some just thrown away.

Couple different methods of stablizing wood, some people use polyurethane and other use resins. My find a club member set up to stabilize wood and willing to help you out. Or may recommend sending those pieces that need stabilizing out to be done. Neither home made kits & supplies cheap nor sending it out to be done.

I have used CA glue while turning to stiffing of stablized wood. If that didn’t work tossed the pen blank or other turning. Have turned a lot different items from spalted wood over the years. So know what can turn and throw away, usually find out when processing wood into pen, spindle or bowl blanks.

I don’t worry about insect holes in spalted wood, think have a pencil cup shown on my projects page do have couple pens and candle holders and some other items with small amounts of spalting.
