DIY1,

I have an older Craftsman belt sander and a Dewalt belt sander. Both have performed very well for me, though I favor the Dewalt because I have the sanding frame accessory attached to the Dewalt.

The sanding frame eliminates gouges and greatly aids in getting a fairly flat gouge/depression free surface when flattening glued panels. It appears that Dewalt may have discontinued the sanding frame. However from what I could determine Bosch, Tritton, and Ryobi are among those manufacturers that offer sanding frames for some of their belt sanders.
