That is a good suggestion. I will take a bit along with me tomorrow to the lumberyard and see if they will open up a new router.
I did have the same problem with the new collets from the very first time I tried installing a bit. In order to use a bit I have to remove the collet and nut, slide the nut on the bit then pry open the collet to get the bit shank started then to the vice to squeeze the bit further on to the shaft.
The new collets did not come with new nuts, I am using the same old ones.
