Gentlemen, sorry for my silence. I’ve been busy assembling my Ridgid while also dealing with a very busy October. Anyway, thanks for the advice on the lube question. So today I completed the assembly and fired it up for the first time and all I can say is wow. So far it has beat my expectations on all counts.

I went with the Ridgid after assurance they fixed the well known alignment issues with their “Type II” trunnions. I must say out of the box this is one tight saw. I did have to make a minor adjustment but it’s cutting straight and holding. No issues with blade alignment so far.

Now, for a little perspective. I went through hell agonizing over what saw to buy, reading, watching videos, talking to people. After all of it i had a breakthrough. The simple truth is I’m not a professional. Yes, who wouldn’t want a $3k-$4k Jet or PowerMatic or Delta Unisaw or whatever. But I could never justify that expense. I’m not a professional, I’m just a guy who likes to tinker and make sawdust and hopefully have something nice in the end. I do it for the love of the craft, and it makes me happy. I don’t need a Rolls Royce saw, and just about anything is better than what I had.

I will always envy the really high end (and high $$) saws. Maybe one day I’ll have one. But for now, just working out of my garage, I’m just a happy hobbyist. That’s just me keeping it real.

So off I go, cautiously optimistic that the Ridgid will be a good tool for me and my needs. Plus, I still have cash in my pocket for other things. This is no slight to anyone who has had a bad experience with the Ridgid. I know many have real and valid complaints. But kudos to Ridgid for at least attempting to fix their saw.

I will report back from time to time on how my Ridgid is doing, or feel free to ask me for an update. For now I’m excited and can’t wait to tackle some of the projects I have lined up.

Thanks again everyone!
